Details

The search for spices took many merchants and sailors around the world to the farthest flung corners of the globe. This novelty quilting fabric has the design of such a map as the spice traders might have used.

The design shows tan ange green landmasses depicting such countries as Portugal, Spain, France, Hungary, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

Also shown are kingdoms which have long since passed on to history: Sardinia, Parma, Valaia, Lombardy, Venetia, Modena, Tuscany, Papal States and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, all of which together comprise modern Italy. Also shown are Corsica and Sardinia in the Mediterranean. To the north and east of France are Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Many of the Germanic states are also depicted: Westphalia, the Kingdom of Hanover, the Kingdom of Saxony, the Duchy of Holstein, Brandenburg, Pomerania, Posen, the Kingdom of Bavaria, Oldenburg, Bohemia, Moravia, the Grand Duchy of Baden, the Kingdom of Württemberg, the Tyrol, Styria, the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Rhine Province, Grand Duchy of Hesse, Duchy of Nassau, the Duchy of Carinthia, Salzburg, Silesia and West and East Prussia. These small kingdoms, duchies and palatinates would subsequently become parts of modern day Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland.

Many bodies of water are also identified including the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea and the Adriatic Sea as various gulfs in Scandinavia.
