Explorers to the West Indies brought back the sweet, golden treasure of the pineapple. The exotic prize of the New World quickly became a universal symbol of hospitality, status and wealth. Adapted from an early 19th-century wallpaper, this pineapple motif has been embellished with flowers from several other 18th-century fabrics.
