Northwestern Wildcats Fleece: Squares

Despite a history of futility on the football field, recent years have witnessed a limited renaissance in the team's fortunes, including trips to bolls and appearances in end of season polls. Nevertheless, the Wildcats' most famous distinctions are related more to the team's misadventures; Northwestern currently holds the Division I-A record for consecutive losses with 34 between 1979 and 1982. The Wildcats were also on the losing end of the greatest comeback in Division I-A history when, in a 2006 game against Michigan State, the Spartans overcame a 38-3 third quarter deficit to win 41-38.

Nevertheless, Northwestern does enjoy a few rivalries which are not entirely lopsided. One in particular is the school's in-state and in conference rivalry with Illinois. The series currently stands at 52-44-5 in favor of the Illini. The winner of the contest is awarded the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk.

The women's lacrosse team, on the other hand, is a national force. Along with Maryland, the Wildcats are the only university to win three national titles in lacrosse in a row.
