Perhaps the most famous lighthouse in history was found near the ancient Egyptian city of Alexandria on the island of Pharos. With its light it guided sailors for hundreds of years, and in doing so gained such fame that it was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
While the lighthouses depicted here may not have achieved the renown of the ancient Pharos, they still are landmarks that attract many visitors every year.
