The University of Iowa Hawkeyes participate in 24 sports, 11 for men and 13 for women. The Hawkeyes joined the Big Ten in 1900 and have become one of its most prominent members since then, especially in football.
The Hawkeyes greatest period of football success came during the tenure of Forest Evashevski, the team's coach from 1952 to 1960. During his time with the team, the Hawkeyes won three Big Ten titles, two Rose Bowls and finished in the top ten of the Associated Press poll five times. In 1958, the Hawkeyes were voted national champions and received the Grantland Rice Award.

In basketball, the Hawkeyes have also had some notable seasons. They have won eight Big Ten regular season titles and two Big Ten Tournament titles. The Hawkeyes have also made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances and have been to three Final Fours.
The design of the Iowa Hawkeyes Fleece: Allover - Black consists of the University's I logo, the team's logo, the words "Iowa Basketball", basketballs swishing through nets, football helmets and the school's Herky the Hawk mascot over a black background.
