Details

Dick and Jane were the main characters in a series of classic books to teach children how to read written by Zerna Sharp. These books started appearing in the 1930's and were used extensively to teach children how to read until the 1970's. Today, the books are still fondly remembered for their simple yet distinctive illustrations by Eleanor Campbell and Keith Ward.

Their distinctive style of artwork is perfectly captured in Dick and Jane Alphabet Fabric: White, in which they are shown learning how to use various letters of the alphabet over a white background.

Some of the scenes read:

F - Fire Truck.

H - Horn

J - Jump, Puff. Jump, jump, jump. Oh, Puff.

L - Look, Sally. Look, look. See Jane.

O - Oh, Father. I see my blue car. I see my yellow car, Look, Father, look.

S - See Jane run. See Dick run. Run, run, run.
