New Page 1 Dick and Jane were the main characters in a series of classic books to teach children how to read written by Zerna Sharp. These books started appearing in the 1930's and were used extensively to teach children how to read until the 1970's. Today, the books are still fondly remembered for their simple yet distinctive illustrations by Eleanor Campbell and Keith Ward.

Their distinctive style of artwork is perfectly captured in Dick and Jane See Something, in which they are shown playing games and observing their surroundings. The print includes the following phrases:

  • See something blue
  • See something yellow
  • See something red
  • See something funny
  • Look, Jane look. I can work
  • See Mother work. Mother can make something. Something blue.
  • Look and see. See something yellow. I can make something
  • I can make something. I can make something red.
  • Come, Jane, come. Come and see. See something blue.
  • See something funny. See Tim.

Among the activities Dick and Jane are engaged in are making sailboats, making doll clothing and helping out Mother. Alongside them are mischievous kitties and puppies getting in the way.

Dick and Jane See Something is a great fabric for a variety of uses. This novelty fabric can be used to make draperies, crafts, quilts, garments, Hawaiian shirts, carrying bags, lampshades, pillow covers, bed sheets, bedspreads, pet clothing and more.
