The Rams are one of the consistently better football programs in the MWC, having won conference championships in 1999, 2000 and 2002. They also have three major rivalries: with the Colorado Buffaloes, the Air Force Falcons and the Wyoming Cowboys. When the Rams play the Colorado Buffaloes the game is known as "The Rocky Mountain Showdown". Colorado currently leads the series 58-19-2. The winner of the Colorado State-Air Force game is awarded the Ram-Falcon Trophy, while the winner of the "Border War" game with Wyoming is presented with the Bronze Boot. Wyoming currently holds a 20-19 edge in the rivalry.
