Details

Anni Albers was one of the many famous students of the Bauhaus art school that operated in Weimar, Germany from 1919 to 1933. In 1925, Anni married Josef Albers, and together they would become one of the most prominent couples at the Bauhaus. During their time at the institution, the faculty also included Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky.

It was at the Bauhaus that Albers began her exploration of textiles, especially their light reflection, durability and sound absorption. After moving on the Black Mountain College in North Carolina, Albers textile work garnered considerable attention in the United States, culminating in a show at the Museum of Modern Art in 1949.

Albers' work continued to receive attention and acclaim throughout the rest of her life. Her last two decades saw her reputation as one of the foremost textile artists cemented with various honorary doctorates and an American Craft Council Gold Medal in 1980. Albers' continued to travel and work until her death in 1994.

Chenille Stripe: Thistle is one of Anni Albers' most famous textile works. Designed in 1946, this decorator fabric has a design of dark brown chenille stripes over a polyester tricot backing.

Chenille Stripe: Thistle fabric has so many possibilities... draperies, wall hangings, seat cushions, pillows, lampshades, slipcovers and table covers are just a few of the items that can be made from this designer fabric.

J&O's selection of Anni Albers' perpetually modern Chenille Stripe design is the perfect starting point for your decorative projects.
