The Buffalo Bills were one of the most successful of the charter members of the AFL, winning back to back titles in 1964 and 1965. Since then, the Bills have become more famous for making four consecutive trips to the Super Bowl, only to lose every one.

The team's on field fortunes took a downturn between 1967 and 1972, as injuries took their toll. Nevertheless, in 1973 the Bills made a spectacular turn around, led by 2,000 yard rusher O.J. Simpson. Instead of beginning a new stretch for the Bills, it would be the team's last post season appearance until 1980.

Throughout the 1980s, the Bills built through the draft. Among the key players the team drafted were: quarterback Jim Kelly, wide receiver Andre Reed, defensive end Bruce Smith, and running back Thurman Thomas. These were the players that led the Bills to an unprecedented four consecutive Super Bowl appearances. Most memorable among these was in 1991 (Super Bowl XXV), which the Bills lost when their kicker Scott Norwood missed a last second field goal attempt.

The Bills' championship game appearances:

  • 1964: Won 20-7 over the San Diego Chargers

  • 1965: Won 23-0 over the Sand Diego Chargers

  • 1991: Lost 20-19 to the New York Giants

  • 1992: Lost 37-24 to the Washington Redskins

  • 1993: Lost 52-17 to the Dallas Cowboys

  • 1994: Lost 30-13 to the Dallas Cowboys

Hall of Famers:

  • O. J. Simpson, Running Back (1969-1977)

  • Billy Shaw, Guard (1961-1969)

  • Marv Levy, Head Coach (1986-1997)

  • Jim Kelly, Quarterback (1986-1996)
