What came first: the chicken or the egg? How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Which creature in the morning goes on four legs, at mid-day on two, and in the evening upon three? The aforementioned are questions which have unsettled great minds and inspired lively debates. Regardless of where you stand on those particular questions, everyone harbors some questions which they can never seem to answer. For instance, what are those dots that are on fabric selvages?
The short of it is that the numbered and colorful dots represent the number of print screens and the color used in each individual screen. Simply put, each dot represents a different color that can be found in the design. These dots are found mainly on novelty fabrics and calicos.
