Bed skirts are a fantastic method to hiding that unsightly box spring or the plethora of items that somehow end up under the bed! With the right coordinating fabric, a simple Velcro bed skirt can transform the overall look of the bed set! Traditional bed skirts slip and shift constantly, a Velcro version stays in place nicely and is surprisingly simple for the do-it-yourself types! Shop our online fabric store to get started!
The solution to a constantly on-the-move bed skirt? A Velcro version with your own choice of fabric! The best part? If you are not a fan of ruffles, it can be made flat like a mattress-wrap with a bit of pleating for detail.
You will need:
- Your choice of fabric from J&O
- Durable Velcro strips
- Sewing machine to hem fabric
- Contrasting thread is great for this project
- Hot glue gun to secure Velcro strips
- Measuring tape
What to do:
- Measure the two long sides and bottom short side of your mattress
- Measure the length that the fabric will hang to the floor
- Cut fabric, leaving an allowance for a nice hem along the bottom and sides
- Use a hot glue gun to secure the Velcro to the box spring
- Glue a strip of Velcro to the corresponding side of each of the 3 fabric pieces
- Smooth the fabric onto the Velcro and your problems are solved in style!
- If you are working with a child’s bed featuring bed rails, you can always glue Velcro directly to the rail and hang the fabric that way.
Make sure that you purchase a quality Velcro strip to avoid the problem of shiftingÂ
