Skirts are fun and flirty, a staple for any woman’s wardrobe. The wrap around skirt by craft master and supermom Andrea DeHart is flattering for any figure, and this reversible pattern adds interest and versatility! Now you are not pinned down to just one fabric—begin by choosing fabrics from our online store and remember: the fabric on the inner side will occasionally play peek-a-boo, so make sure they compliment each other!
(Photos and tutorial by Andrea DeHart) Wrap around skirts not only flatter every figure, but one size fits all (in most instances).
Pro-tip: Prevent tears later by pre-washing fabric and ribbons.
Projected project time: 2-4 hours
You will need:
• Approximately 2 yards 45” (or 1 ½ yard and 60”) of durable fabric (if you choose a more dainty fabric, you may want to double layer or add a slip).
• 3 yards of 1/12” grosgrain ribbon
• ¼ yard rickrack or trim for pocket
• Matching or contrasting thread, depending on preference
• Sewing machine. Thinking of getting one? Check out our selection of Brother sewing machines!
• Clothing iron
What to do: Download the tiled skirt pattern
• Cut out pattern to desired size
• Sew all seam allowances 5/8” unless pattern directs otherwise
• Start by sewing the solid fabric panels. This is the easiest part to begin, just stay-stitch the front and back waistline, then begin in the center and sew to the outer edges.
• Match the right sides of the skirt together and join the center back seam, matching the pattern symbols for placement. Sew each front panel to the back panel at the side seams.
• Press with an iron so that all seams open lie flat
• Go out and flaunt your flair, spinning and allowing a few swirls. Skirts are fun for adults, too!
