The Art of Fabric

This project is one of the least expensive ways to add a trendy dash and a bit of color to a wall or desk. It also allows for a great deal of creativity!

 

Required Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Thick paper
  • Hobby knife
  • A frame
  • Fabric (remnants would work well depending on the size of the project)
  • Something to mark your fabric with
  • A ruler
  • Masking tape
  • Pencil/ printed out design

As I mentioned in the materials section, you can either create your own design to cut out or use a preexisting one. I chose the latter idea and printed this out to use as a template.

Step 1: Line up your template and paper so that your design is where you want it to be cut out.

Step 2: Tape your template to your paper so it does not slide around while you are cutting.

Step 4: Begin to cut out your design using your hobby knife

Make sure that you are cutting all the way though both pieces of paper!

When you are done, this is basically what you should be left with:

Step 5: Measure the piece of paper that fits in your frame

Step 6: Using the dimensions that you recorded from when you measured the paper to mark a piece of fabric to be the exact same size.

Step 7: Cut out the piece of fabric.

Step 8: Line up the fabric and paper to be placed in the frame.

Step 9: Enjoy the finished product!

This project is a simple and inexpensive way to add some trendy decor to a space. We especially recommend them for college dorms where there is very limited space to express your creativity.
