Whether its a Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polyurethane (PU), Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO),  Silicone, or another application,  to protect your investment and get the longest possible use out of your vinyl / faux leather fabric, it is important to follow the proper cleaning instructions. But before we go into those, lets take a quick look at the difference between each.

Each day one of the members of our J&O Family has the inviting yet sometimes arduous responsibility of posting our ‘Sewing Tip of the Day ‘ for our fabulous facebook fans and twitter followers to view, comment on, and discuss. And while we enjoy being able to supply those little tid bits of info, every once and awhile we find ourselves seeking the same guidance and assistance from our community of seamstresses, tailors, designers, artisans, crafters and self-taught elders.

Every REAL Seamstresses Right of Passage!

Just recently we posted a query on our J&O Fabric Store Facebook page asking our fans to share some of their worst sewing mishaps to date. While we expected the standard wrong sides put together and collars attached to sleeves issues, what we didn’t gander on were the amount of near amputations and close calls our stoic seamstresses were faced with as rotary blades skimmed finger tips and needles pierced thru flesh and nail. Makes one wonder just how safe is this historic hobby of many? So we took a little poll to see and this is what we found. All squeemish and faint of heart, vacate now….this could get kinda ugly!!

Top Ten Facebook Sewing Tips of the Day

Just about a month ago J&O Fabrics started posting our “Sewing Tip of the Day” on our Facebook page. Some sewing tips got more of a response from our Facebook Friends than others. According to those responses, here are our top ten, or maybe I should say your top ten.

1. Keep a magnet near by, if needles
and pins drop on the floor, it’s a quick pick up!

2. Save all of your hand sewing, buttons etc. for a beautiful day. Then take advantage of it and sew outside!!

Dear Sam,

Railroaded, Repeated and Up-the-Roll: Fabric Repeats

A little over two years ago, we posted a blog on our website called “From Railroad To Repeat” where our focus was to address the question of direction and help our customers distinguish between ‘railroaded’,  ‘up-the-roll’  and ‘repeat’ of printed fabrics. Since the direction of the print and the distance between an image and its duplicate on a bolt of fabric is imperative to know especially when placing yardage orders to complete an upholstery, window treatment, or custom project, knowing the industry language might make estimating just a little bit easier. With a few small updates and some new images too, here is a recap on railroaded fabrics and repeats for the crafter in you.
