Organize Your Sewing RoomImage by: georgiapeachez

Since I was a teen I dreamed of having my own creative space. Somewhere I could go and relax without worrying about making a mess in the dining room, which, by the way, killed my creativity! I wanted the ability of making things to my heart’s content and then just leave it sit if I wanted to. It’s no fun feeling guilty for my creative overflow of fabric scraps, yarn and thread. When I got married and moved in to my turn-of-the-century farmhouse I claimed one of the upstairs rooms as my crafting haven.

Ten of our Funniest Sewing Tip Responses

On our Facebook page we have a daily sewing tip. We fondly refer to it as our “Sewing Tip of the Day”.  We sit in a backroom, feverishly trying to come up with these tips. Occasionally, when we don’t feel inspired we scan the web aimlessly. Sometimes without much luck, while other times we are inspired and one thing leads to another. That’s the way it often happens once we place the tip of the day on Facebook. One thing leads to another, and another, and another. Here’s a sampling of those.

Update on Wal-Mart’s Fabric Reduction

The fabric industry was shocked when it became known in 2006 that Wal-Mart was planning on closing the fabric departments in most of its stores. Many fabric lovers reacted in disbelief to the idea that Wal-Mart would be closing out the fabric departments of over 1,000 stores beginning in 2007.The process has since gotten under way and has taken a toll on sewing enthusiasts everywhere, who feel that they’ve been left without an alternative to Wal-Mart’s fabric department. Is that really the case?

Although Wal-Mart was a dominant force in the fabric market, it was by no means the only player in the industry. Meanwhile, J&O Fabrics has upgraded its web site to better cater to the needs of its customers. With J&O you can almost recreate the experience of shopping in your favorite local fabric store from the comfort of your home. In addition to making our web site more user friendly, we have also expanded it to include such essential items as interfacing, linings, ribbon, scissors and trims.
