When this past winter’s weather dragged on well into the spring, thoughts of warm sandy beaches and the hot sun shining down on us melting the chill away stayed on the minds and wish lists of many. Now that the blazing rays of summer are here, longings for cooler days and the festivities of the winter season fill our imaginings in such a delightful way we can hardly wait for the season to come back around. Enter Christmas in July!
With summer quickly passing by and sun worshipers trying desperately to slow her pace down, many find themselves scrambling to prepare for one of the seasons biggest festive occasions… the Fourth of July.
Celebrated on that day with fireworks, cook outs, commemorations, and trips to the shore, Independence Day offers a time for reflection, human connection, great food and so much more. Over a week ago we put out a call to our Facebook family to send us pics of their most creative Valentine’s Day crafts, but to much of our surprise, Cupid’s arrow didn’t seem to strike the hearts of many, and so our campaign narrowed down to ONE.
Roxanne Ojeda of Retro Roxy submitted one of her Valentines themed retro styled pin up girl aprons designed with eXtra special dinner plans in mind. Flouncy skirts and ruffled fold down smock in assorted complimentary prints and color palate make her creations uniquely distinguishable among the rest. When not making custom aprons and specialty crafts for admirers, her smoke-free, pet-free, pattern-free environment sets the backdrop for a lot of quirky, retro styled creations to flow thru in a very organic way.
Earth Day was born on April 22, 1970 as was the foundations of the environmental movement. Now, forty-two years later, we are still finding new ways to live a greener lifestyle and create a smaller carbon footprint for the good of our planet and future generations. Crafters have even picked up the baton and found new ways to repurpose clothing and recycle household waste into some pretty amazing craft projects.

St. Patrick’s Day is always a welcome holiday to me as it seems that spring is the gold at the end of the rainbow. My family and I always celebrated the holiday with the traditional corned beef and cabbage along with a generous slice of rye bread slathered in creamy butter. I always looked forward to wearing my favorite green sweater at our annual feast.
