Top Three Fabric Ornament How-Tos

 J&O Christmas Tree Decorations

The holidays are a time of tradition. Every year, my family and I come together to make Christmas ornaments. The week before December 25th we order Christmas novelty fabric, pop in the Nutcracker Suite, and make our own ornaments that we put on the tree to represent us that year. In that spirit, I compiled the top three fabric ornament how-tos for our J&O customers to check out. While my family and I celebrate Christmas, these ornaments would be perfect to personalize for any holiday that you and yours enjoy.

J&O Celebrates July 4th with Hot New Prints!

While many Americans will be taking advantage of the Independence Day holiday by gearing up and celebrating a fun filled weekend of cook outs, fire works, baseball games, trips to the shore, or that much needed rest and relaxation, others will be remembering the signed commemoration that made us officially free from Great Britian over 200 years ago with parades, speeches and gatherings.

In honor of all the activities we as Americans have incorporated and designated for the July 4th weekend, J&O Fabrics offers a plethora of cotton novelty prints that seem to capture the American culture in all its glory. From baseball prints and USA flag designs, to backyard bbq and beach themes, each fabric has a story to tell and each story has a fabric waiting to reflect it.

J&O Fabric Craft: Nydia’s Aprons

Here at J&O Fabrics, I am surrounded by an intimate group of abundantly talented women from diverse social and economic backgrounds, who not only possess the required skills and experience to help run one of the top fabric stores on the world wide web, but who pack under their belts the kind of crafty talent and creative mindset that motivates and stirs the artistic juices in all of us on a daily basis. Ranging in age from 20 well into their 50’s, these humble servants of the Great Imagination are always finding new ways to revamp and revitalize even the most outdated chairs, window dressings, and garments; and the talent doesn’t stop there. Every week our suppliers send us new fabric and material for our wonderful customers that even the most graceful of ladies find hard to resist, as the mere sound of the UPS guy sends us running to see what’s come in. Designing new fashions and manifesting unique ideas into fruition is just part of the territory here at J&O Fabrics. It’s almost impossible not to be inspired to try our hand at something new amongst the multitude of assorted bolts that make up the colorful walls of this mom & pop brick and martyr.

Consumer Savvy Carol: Handcrafted Holiday Fabric Wraps & Bows

With Christmas less than a few days away and Kwanzaa soon following, why not pull on your creative juices and save a little money at the same time with great fabric gift wrappings and bows?

For most crafters and designers alike, fabric scraps from botched projects, incomplete projects, and projects with more fabric left over than used, often times accumulate into colorful mountains of textured material eagerly waiting to be recycled and put to good use. Many times the end result is a funky reconstructed shirt, festively trimmed greeting card, or cute little fabricated doll for the holidays. But what about using that beautiful fabric as an inexpensive and easy substitute for actual store bought wrapping paper for use during the holidays and any special occasion.

Bring in Winter 2008 With JO Fabrics & Cool No-Sew Fleece Throws!

Blankets are a great gift for your loved ones this Christmas season. And hand-crafted blankets or throws created with specific loved ones and friends in mind, are sure to please. You don’t need to have any sewing skills to create one either. With J & O’s wide selection of 100% poly-winter fleece and a pair of scissors, you can make a warm lightweight blanket for loved ones over seas, little ones at home, even for those less fortunate. A warm winter fleece blanket can make even the loneliest of souls feel loved.

Consumer Savvy Carol : Tip 101 “YoYo Mom!”

If you’re anything like me, these days I’m sure you find yourself cringing in the supermarkets isles. Sometimes I think I’d be better off taking advantage of the dollar menu at the nearest fast food restaurant. Times are tough right now for the average family and as a Mom, I know I feel responsible for making every dollar stretch as far as possible. Sometimes it’s challenging not to take the easy way out. But there are lots of creative choices we can make to stretch our dollars. Maybe all it takes is a shift in our perceptions of a more simplified reality.
