Simple Fun: Creating Doll Garments

J&O Beautiful and well done dolls' clothing sourced from babygadget.net

Usually when I tell people that I make doll clothes they are taken aback which is understandable; once you start a project you are excited about it seems that you blink twice and it is already finished. However, even with that factored in you can still have a lot of fun with this craft by using tiny pieces of finer fabric chiffon, organza, and satin to make outfits that you would never wear yourself or would never have the guts to. In short, you can build yourself an imaginary closet using beautiful dress fabrics. Even brocades work beautifully for coats on dolls if you use a small enough pattern! If that is not enough to keep you occupied, there is also the challenging of fitting clothing to different sized dolls.

What Santa’s Outfit Is Made Of

J&O Santa Costume

Santa has an iconic look to say the least. He can be recognized all over the world by his characteristic hat, boots, jacket, pants, and of course, his fluffy white beard. This Christmas season we sat down and really thought about what went into putting together that outfit when Mrs. Claus first sewed it hundreds of years ago.

J&O Fabric Storyboard: Image Source: http://amuslimchildisborn.blogspot.com/2010/05/felt-story-board-camping.htmlCrayons, markers, and even Playdough can get a little messy when little ones are creating their masterpieces. That is why we encourage the use of craft felt fabric for all of our young ones artistic endeavors. Not only can they easily change any detail they want, once the pieces are created you can use them over and over to make new scenes. When pieces are interchangeable there is no end to the potential stories that can be created. That equates to endless hours of fun and ample room for imaginations to leap and bound.

Kid’s Hanukkah Fabric Decorations

J&O Happy Hanukkah

As an only child, I grew up in a household where every craft that I ever made was kept and treasured. This is especially true for the holiday decorations that I crafted. Every year, my mother hangs up the little felt wreath I decorated in the fourth grade. I often give her a hard time about it and remind her that I am now an adult so she should probably stop putting it up. However, the truth is, I love that she has kept it all of these years and still thinks to put it in a prominent place during the holidays. Help your kids create their own memories with these Hanukkah kid’s crafts.

It is the most wonderful time of the year! As the song says, there is much mistletoeing and hearts are glowing with holiday cheer. However, with all of the craziness that surrounds the holidays with cleaning and decorating the house for parties, putting up relatives, cooking, and finding the perfect tree, figuring out a gift that is personal and fits into your budget can be quite difficult. That is why we love making fleece fabric blankets for gifts. They are fantastic for friends at the office and for kids to make for teachers.

In that spirit, I compiled the top three fabric ornament how-tos for our J&O customers to check out. While my family and I celebrate Christmas, these ornaments would be perfect to personalize for any holiday that you and yours enjoy.

#1: Martha Stewart Fabric Balls

Little Critters

Every year from age eight to age twelve, I insisted upon being a which for Halloween. I got to paint my face green, run around pretending to ride a broom, and make ‘potions’ in my back yard using everything from sticks to my dad’s hair gel (he just loved that). Looking back on it, I wish that someone had shown me all of my options! If I had known how cool it would be to put on some boxing gloves and a long brightly colored cotton robe and be a kick butt boxer, I totally would have done that. In that spirit, we compiled our top five favorite kid’s Halloween costumes:
