As our Facebook Fan page continues to grow, more and more of our crafty customers are showing off  their cool creations for our J&O family and community to view, share and comment on. One such fan is Karen Jordan of Jenny’s Angels, a line of custom made aprons and christening outfits designed in honor of Karen’s best friend Jenny who passed awaiting a kidney transplant. For Karen, all babies are angels, and since her line is named for Jen, a portion of every design sold is donated to the American Diabetes Foundation in her name . Jenny also loved butterflies, so on all of Karen’s custom christening gown designs there is a butterfly somewhere. Since Karen is a religious follower of our J&O Fabrics  acebook page, she is constantly replenishing her fabric stock with cool prints from our store and has this to say about our fabulous collection of Michael Miller prints and more…

J&O Celebrates National Keep Kids Creative Week 2014

jandofabrics

Celebrated the last week of September,  National Keep Kids Creative Week was started in the fall of 2003 by illustrator and author Bruce Van Patter. Bruce created National Keep Kids Creative Week to encourage kids to use their ideas and imaginings instead of relying on video games and television to do it for them. Once word got around, teachers began to celebrate it in their classrooms and since 2006, KKCW (Keep Kids Creative Week) has been listed in Chase’s Calendar of Events, a high-profile, national directory of holidays and celebrations.

I am teaching my little girls the basics of pillow making but have always struggled myself with stitching an enclosed seam so that the pillow corners will be square and filled out. Any advice?

Dear Pillow Project Problems,

The Gang is All Here! Charlie Brown and Friends

Charlie Brown image by akuchlingimage by akuchling

As a child I loved Charlie Brown. I remember it wasn’t officially fall or the holidays until I had watched a Peanuts special on television. I recall visiting my cousin who had his whole room decked out in Charlie Brown decor right down to the pillowcase. I suppose the reason why Charlie Brown and the whole Peanuts crew is so lovable is the fact that as kids and adults we can all relate to the characters which were the brainchild of Charles Schulz. There is a little Charlie Brown and I suppose a bit of Lucy in all of us and that’s what we see in those simplistic characters… ourselves!

Dr. Seuss Turned Loose!

The Lorax

It’s extremely hard to find someone who doesn’t remember Dr. Seuss. His stories have excited children for years! Seuss’ 46 books have charmed us and made us laugh. Now that I’m an adult, and reading them to my own daughter, I find that I never tire of them, no matter how repetitive they might be. The charming, quirky characters that live in make-believe worlds easily parallel with our own crazy lives. The morals that are laced throughout the stories shine through in the end which has made these books cherished for generations.

J&O Celebrates Children’s Day Worldwide!

They say children are the closest things to God, and I believe it. Some even say that it is in fact, the children that choose their parents to fulfill a divine purpose or part in this big play called ‘Life’. Hard to conceive for some, easier for others, but one thing most can agree on is that children sure have a way of both challenging us and bringing us a joy that is without comparison.

All across the globe, there is a shared appreciation for our little ‘mini-me’s’ that can be seen through the various celebrations and festivals centered around them. From Australia to Vietnam and almost everywhere in between, communities and governments worldwide pay homage to the age of innocence and tomorrow’s future with games, events, performances, family outings, etc. To play our part, J&O Fabrics offers a wide selection of assorted children themed novelty print, flannel, and fleece fabrics for your crafting pleasure. Make great quilts, bedding, garments, nightwear, pillows…the list goes on and on! Best part, we don’t have to limit ourselves to celebrating our children just during the specified days. We can love them, teach them, nurture them, learn from them, and raise them into happy, confident individuals 247/365 and somewhere along that journey, connect with the inner child in all of us as well!Have fun checking out some of our top selling child themed fabrics below.

J&O Celebrates National Autism Awareness Month!

April is National Autism Awareness Month, a time when special attention is given to this fascinating yet challenging neurological dis-ease affecting more and more children each year. Once viewed by society as a disorder of the mind, and a form of either mental retardation or schizophrenia, researchers and psychologists are discovering more about the nature of the dis-ease and dismantling the falsehoods of what was once believed. Still somewhat of a mystery, access to the world-wide web has proven to be a great benefit not only to those who are challenged by the dis-ease themselves, but caretakers, parents and society overall.
