2014 Color Trends

Twice a year, color forecasters go into research mode to predict and dictate the palates that the fashion industry and ultimately, we as consumers, will prescribe to for the season ahead.  One of the most respected and established is Pantone. With almost 2,000 colors in their index of tile colors and over 20 years of setting the color standards used worldwide to create a unified communication code for international use, they have become one of the leading global authorities on color.  Once their forecast is set, textile manufactures produce specifically dyed fabrics that designers inturn purchase for their collections. For them, these forecasts are viewed as a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’ where those who choose to follow will become part of what ultimately becomes the trend….and what designer wants to be irrelevant?

What Does Your Fabric Say About You?

As a crafter I find myself drawn to certain color schemes time-and-time again. I prefer cheery, vintage-inspired prints. If I’m looking for a solid color I’m often drawn to blues, greens, and pinks–cool colors. I’ll occasionally venture out of my comfort zone and wear a bright red or orange–warm colors. Oftentimes I prefer more muted shades. So, what does your fabric say about you? Check out some of the prints I’ve profiled below and see which one suits you best!

I don’t think I have ever met a little girl who didn’t dream about being a princess. As a result, there is a high demand for cool princess gear online to help them live out their dreams. The items listed below, courtesy of poshtots.com, are some of the most decadent princess items that the internet has to offer to the little princesses of the world. While these are great to look at, they are not as easy to obtain; it isn’t cheap being royalty! I know I certainly couldn’t afford the items below for my little one, which is why I would look at them for inspiration! It’s free and it pushes the craftiest of us to create something just as beautiful for significantly less.

What would The Golden Globes be without red carpet fashion? And what would red carpet fashion be without the beautiful array of fabrics, one of a kind designs, and individual styles of the entertainers and actors that lumber, strut, and glide their way across it for our viewing pleasure year after year?

What would it be? Simply boring I would imagine.

But thanks to this fascinating little inborn ability all humans possess that allows us to conceptualize a thought in our minds , create a visual image of that thought, and bring that vision into fruition (in one way or another), we get to experience different ways of expressing ones’ self to the world and the approval or disapproval of others who are ironically striving to do the same.

SAG Fabric Fashions Part II: Designer Fabric

If it was curiosity that killed the cat, then it was definitely satisfaction that brought it back.

While gossip columnists, tabloid reporters and inquiring minds were eager to discover whether or not another bundle of joy was patiently waiting to be revealed from behind the free flowing vintage gown Angelina’s wore, we at J&O were waiting to find out the name of that beautiful fabric that she chose to garment herself in for the annual red carpet affair.

Our curiosity was satisfied when it was revealed that her designer piece was a mahogany and slate colored, tie-dyed, paneled chiffon. And it looked great!
