You will need:
• 3/8 yard of fabric
• 3/8 yard for case lining
• 13” x 13” swatch of low-loft cotton batting
• 1 pack of ½” wide, double-fold bias tape (or enough fabric to make 1 3/8 yards of bias binding
• 1 yard of decorative ribbon, leather string or cording
• Thread (bright thread will jazz up the edges!)
• Scissors
• Ruler
What to do:
• For the outer fabric: Cut a 13” x 13” square and a 13” x 7” piece.
• For the inside fabric and batting: Cut a 13” x 13” piece
• Cut 2 ribbons @ 15” each
• Round the corners of all 13” x 13” pieces of fabric to make it easier to apply bias tape.
• Hem the long edge of the un-rounded 13×7 pocket piece, folding over 1” to wrong side and press
• Fold over 1” again and press, then straight-stitch close to the pressed edge
• Mark the front pockets by measuring over from one short side and mark as follows: 2 ½”, 4”, 5 ½”, 7 ½” and 9 ½”. Mark these points with tailors chalk or a marking pen
• Place pocket piece over lining material, matching raw edges and rounded corners. Sew pocket into place with ¼” seam around the edge
• Stitch the pocket to the lining across your marked lines, backstitching at pocket openings
• On the outer fabric, mark the center and place a ribbon on the wrong side of the material, sewing ¼” from the edge
• Fold ribbon to the right side and stitch ¼” from edge
• Layer the fabrics and batting together by placing the wrong side of the outer material up, then batting, then layer the lining material with pocket facing up—matching all raw and rounded edges.
• Baste ¼” around all edges, ensuring the ribbon ends do not get caught
• Attach double-fold bias tape. From top edge of roll, go down 2 ½” and fold outside material to inside lining, pressing into place. Finish by sewing ¼” from edge!
