Remembering 9/11

Everyone morns and reflects in different ways. Many choose to do both of those things in artwork. That is precisely what the Peninsula Piecemakers Quilt Guild did to commemorate the ten year anniversary of September 11th, 2001. Those in the guild were asked to express their feelings about the events of that day thorough their work. The result was thirty beautiful, touching quilts. While it was not easy for members to try to accurately describe their feelings through quilting, the results are still poignant.

Those in the guild were not the only ones to respond to this tragedy by turning to this art form. The quilt shown above was done as a tribute to a close friend of the maker’s son who was one of the fire fighters who passed away in the tragedy. This is a perfect example of a quilt that is made up of a lot more than just fabric; there is a lot of love sewn in there as well.

We can only hope that the rest of those effected by 9/11 can find such positive (not to mention beautiful) outlets for their frustration. Please share with us anything special that you and yours did to commemorate 9/11.
