You don’t need expert sewing skills or costly rhinestone trim. There are all kinds of easy-to-make embellishment that will deliver the “Wow!” factor.
Hand Rolled Roses
The one-shoulder shirt in this McCall’s pattern shows you a flower embellishment at the shoulder. Fabric flowers are a great embellishment that can touch up many designs for tops, dresses, skirts, and more. They are easy to make and easy to attach.
Hand rolled roses are sophisticated and luxurious. They look great in satin and are perfect on evening dresses. Crafting doesn’t get much easier than making these. Take a 2-3 inch strip of fabric and fold it in half, right side out. Fold in a corner and start rolling! Tack it with a few stitches as you go until it’s as big as you want it. Done and done.
Leather Trim
For a funky, downtown look, use a bit of faux leather trim. Taking the one shoulder look as an example again, this would look very cool going around the neckline. Isn’t this Upholstery Fabric? Why, yes it is! No one said it can’t be used on clothes. We won’t tell if you won’t.
Contrasting Overlays
A sheer overlay softens the look and lends a beautiful, draped feel to your garment. An overlay that contrasts with the opaque fabric underneath plays with the eye and creates a new color.
