We have been sharing our Word to the Wise on our facebook page for a while now and have compiled the Top 10 Tips which our fans have found to be the most helpful. Take a look and if you have any suggestions for new tips, we would love to know!
Tip #1
Looking for a better way to store your patterns once released from their confining packages? Try hanging them up in your closet or on a clothing rack. Keeps all the pieces together, prevents wrinkling, and allows for easy access next time you are ready to use!
Tip #2
Thrift stores, yard sales, and local flea markets make great inexpensive treasure finds for trim, notions, fabrics and hard to find speciality craft tools and items. What was your best find?
Tip #3
If the sole plate of your iron is really gunky, set it face down in a jelly roll pan. Add a quarter inch of white vinegar and let the iron soak for a few minutes (UNPLUGGED!!). Wipe dry.
Tip #4
To confirm that your machine is in the proper timing for the needle-and-hook relationship, insert a new needle, thread the machine, lower your tension some, and run your widest zigzag stitch. If the stich forms on both sides, then your machine is well timed.
Tip #5
If you can’t find a perfect thread color match for your fabric, buy thread that is a shade darker. A lighter color will usually show up more.
Tip #6
Recycle used dryer sheets to give extra backing support when repairing tears and holes in jeans.
Tip #7
When threading your hand needle, hold a piece of scotch tape behind the eye to prevent the thread from falling back out of the hole once you get it in.
Tip #8
Use a sports water bottle to fill your steam iron’s water reservoir. The water will pour directly into the reservoir with no drips.
Tip #9
A stitch in time saves nine is the number one rule in mending. Fix it right away! A small seam has a way of becoming a big mess!
and
Tip #10
Never feel guilty, bad or out of control about your fabric stash. Period!

Those are some great tips I have not heard before. Thanks, J & O!
Thanks for great tips! They are much appreciated! : )
I enjoyed Tip #1. Also one can use & save the department store plastic hangers with the clips on each end of the hanger to save keep patterns. The white hangers from the
children’s section is also a good idea to hang sewing items.
I use them all the time even to close chips bags.
I enjoyed the sewing tips. Have a great sewing day!
