Texas A&M Aggies

It’s been well over twenty years since I relished in the glory of a basketball championship win, but I can still remember the feeling of accomplishment that remained long after the swollen knees, painful ankles and bruised egos gained along the often times arduous and taxing road to glory had faded. So to see the smiles and hear the excitement of the Texas A&M Aggies Women’s Basketball team after their record breaking 76-70 national championship win against Notre Dame this past Tuesday night, was nothing short of reminiscent. “I wouldn’t let my team lose,” said Danielle Adams, the Aggies’ first All-American, whose 30 points were the second-most in championship game history. “They’ve (the team) been doing everything for me, so I decided to take them on my back.”

Texas A&M started out using its relentless defense to put Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish against the ropes, forcing the team into six turnovers in the first five minutes alone. This edge gave the Aggies a 13-point lead from the door. And though much of the game was a back and forth of tit for tat, it wouldn’t be until the second half that the ladies of the burgundy and grey would really dominate the court with their aggressive plays. With more than a minute left and A&M clinging to a two-point lead, Notre Dame fell short of a rebound off an Adams miss with two seconds remaining on the shot clock. The inbounds play was called to get the ball to Adams, and the rest, as they say in the case of these perservering ladies, is history in the making.

In honor of our female athletes, the game of basketball as a whole, and win that brought the title to a school that didn’t even admit women until 1963, J&O Fabric Store celebrates Texas A&M Aggies Women’s Basketball team on this, a very monumental occasion!
