National Doctors’ Day is held every year on March 30th in the United States. It is a day to celebrate the contribution of physicians who serve our country by caring for its’ citizens.
The first Doctor’s Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians and their invaluable role in helping people. This first observance included the mailing of greeting cards and placing of flowers on graves of deceased doctors. As a result, the red carnation soon became a symbol of the nationally honored occasion and has remained so over the years. Today, National Doctor’s Day is celebrated with not only words of appreciation, but parties, service awards, conferences, dances, and much more. But these are small tokens for the lives saved, wounds healed, pain comforted and worries put to ease that doctors often perform. Like many of our service oriented fields, once their job is done, we often forget simple words of ‘thanks’ for the people and institutions we depend on so much.
In honor of National Doctor’s Day and our pediatricians, obygn’s, primary care physicians, specialists, and Dr Mom’s across the country, J&O Fabrics offers a selection of doctor related fabrics and floral carnation prints to make this national event one to remember year after year. Make great Doctor’s Day crafts for your favorite doctor(s) today. For all that they have done and continue to do, show them you care. A kind gesture goes a long way. Gift your doctor today!
