With the closing of one year and the opening of another, many of us who live by our planners often find ourselves marking off holidays and special occasions in our new date books and office/home calendars as soon as we get them. After the days off work and the days of vacation or celebration are securely implanted in our memory banks and written with countdown in mind, then come the doctors appointments, pta meetings, business conferences, and the list goes on and on.
Because we at J&O Fabrics know just how busy our customer’s lives can become, we wanted to take a moment to remind our readers of one of our country’s most honored leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, and the celebration of his nationally recognized holiday, Dr Martin Luther King Jr Day ( January 15th). When we think about Martin, we are reminded of the struggle for freedom, not only for African-Americans, but for oppressed people everywhere irregardless of race, gender, sexuality, political affiliation or culture. Nearly five decades after his assasination, a new leader was birthed into not only the movement for social change, but into the White House itself. With a similar message and agenda for America that Dr King carried, the world watched as President Barack Obama stood on the shoulders of his ancestor in the very same month as the birth of Dr King, and gave his resounding Inaugural Address before millions who flocked to be as much a part of this history in the making as those who marched to the Lincoln Memorial for Kings famous ‘I Have a Dream Speech‘ in 1963.
In honor of our leaders both present and past… in observance of the power of one, and unity of all… J&O Fabrics celebrates both the birthday of Dr Martin Luther King Jr and the 3rd year anniversary of President Barack Obama’s official honoring into office with a selection of Obama fabric and peace themed cotton and fleece inspired by Dr. King and his message for your crafting pleasure. Carried year round, but especially popular from now into Black History Month, our prints make the perfect fabric for school projects, themed events, personalized gifts and more.
Celebrate American history 365 with J&O Fabrics!
