When I was a child, styling Barbie dolls, playing double dutch, outbeating Simon Says, and winning at Go Fish were just a handful of the entertaining distractions that occupied my mind and passed the hours. Today it’s PSP’s, The Wii, Dora dolls and Pokemon Ranger video games.
Speaking of Pokemon Ranger video games, I never understood the hype and excitement behind my 8 year olds attraction to his Pokemon creatures, if I may call them that. Him and his neighborhood friends can spend what seems like hours role playing with this action packed video as they travel through various regions in an attempt to capture the seemingly unstoppable and elusive Blaziken who has full fire pokepower. According to my son, his gifts range from the ability to leap over skyscrapers in a single jump to making flames spout from its wrists and ankles. These abilities are a bit of importance to my son since he too will someday be able to fly and shoot flames, just like Blaziken.
Up until this moment of ecstatic sharing a few days ago, I hand no clue what to get him for his birthday next month. My problem was solved when I found the Pokemon Blaziken on print at J&O Fabrics. Maybe I will fashion a pair of summer pj’s or a quilt for his bed with the animated cotton fabric. After all, a soon to be Blaziken clone needs all the inspiration he can get.
