As our J&O Fabrics Facebook fan page keeps growing, more and more of our crafty customers are showing off their cool creations for our J&O family and community to view, share and comment on. One such fan is fellow Facebook page holder Lorna Holley.
Lorna showcased her Relay for Life Raffle Quilt on our Facebook page a couple of months ago and we liked it so much, we wanted to know a little bit more about her and the inspiration behind her creation. Seems it was a labor of love crafted not only by her, but by the hands of more than one artist. It was also inspired by those touched in one way or another by some form of Cancer. From a husband who survived two very serious Cancers and a son living with Lymphoma, to a mother who passed from Ovarian Cancer to a friend named Charky Wilson who did the cross-stitch in the quilt and who, as a nineteen year Breast Cancer survivor, served (and continues to serve) as a vessel of inspiration over the years. The top center block of the quilt in fact, was made from a tee Charky wore during one of the relays she ran and a scarf she rocked during her chemo treatments. The side panels were also cross stitched with different colored Cancer awareness ribbons, while J&O Fabric’s purple ribbon fabric served as the perfect print for the quilts’ center HOPE square. Once all the squares were individually put together, the final stitches were constructed by another quilter at the Quilt Asylum in McKinney, TX and blessed by Lorna’s paster before being raffled off to a lucky winner.
What a great way to bring not only awareness to a growing dis-ease affecting people from all ages and walks of life, but to the power of LOVE! We thank you for sharing your heart inspired works with our J&O Family and encourage the continual nurturing of your craft!
