As our J&O Fabrics Facebook Fan page keeps growing, more and more of our crafty customers are showing off their cool creations for our J&O family and community to view, share and comment on. One such fan is fellow Facebook page holder Jessica of Creaciones Mariposa.

Jessica showcased her craft with a cause Fibromyalgia tote bag our Facebook page and we liked it so much, we wanted to know a little bit more about her and her hobby. Turns out, Jessica not only creates for family and friends, but has her own Etsy page to share her crafts with others as well. Featuring everything from Xoom Cases and Dorset Buttons, to Therapeutic Therapy Cases available in selected prints and scents, and even clothing, Jessica has not let her disability keep her from teaching herself how to use her imagination to not only sew but inspire others to work thru life’s stumbling blocks and do the same. Jessica had this to say about her journey into DIY crafting madness…

” At this point in time, I am on a huge Fibromyalgia project creating ‘kick’. I just finished up a collection of Fibro jewlery using Dorset buttons, and now my hands hate me! LOL !! My story behind my Fibromyalgia Awareness Tote Set is actually really simple. I unfortunately suffer from this horrible syndrome and have been wanting to find some type of  ‘purple ribbon fabric’ for some time now. I did a Google search and found J&O Fabrics. I immediately fell in love with the purple ribbon fabric that J&O had to offer. I was even more motivated to purchase it because the National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day was coming up on May 12th. I wanted to create a purse, tote or bag of some type to sell on Esty for this day. As soon as I received my fabric in the mail (very promptly too I may add), I was even more in love with it. The color was beautiful and the novelty cotton was nice to the touch. With no real idea/pattern in mind, I simply laid the fabric on my rotary mat and began to cut. Once I got more into a groove, I decided that I would just create a basic oversized tote. And what good is an oversized tote without a lot of pockets?! My tote features seven pockets of various sizes!

Once my tote was completed I couldn’t quit with the fabric! I wanted to keep making things and making things. I must have looked like Edward Scissorhands when he was cutting the neighborhood ladies hair with it flying all over. I was a purple ribbon monster!! So I decided on accessories for my tote. I created a basic cosmetics bag, a wallet, and a triangle head scarf to complete the set.  The wallet was originally going to be a billfold. I had everything sewn into it that I wanted, but when I went to do my final stitching, I completely spaced out on what I was trying to do and instead sewed it together like you would sew a purse. Well, my temporary ‘fog brain’ resulted in my ‘wallet’ turning more into a zippered pouch with six credit card slots, a vinyl drivers license slot, and a small pouch with a snap.

I love the fabric I selected because so many other diseases/disorders use the purple ribbon for their awareness as well, including Cancer. Since I intended my finished project to appeal to those suffering from this challenging disease too, I included the triangle head scarf for those who may be going thru chemo.”

What a great way to turn your stumbling blocks into stepping stones and be of service to the world at the same time Jessica!
