As our Facebook Fan page keeps growing, more and more of our crafty customers are showing off their cool creations for our J&O family and community to view, share and comment on. One such fan is fellow Facebook page holder, Barbara of Barb’s Baby Boutique.

Barbara showcased one of her beautiful princess themed children’s car seat covers on our J&O Fabrics Facebook page and we liked it so much, we wanted to know a little bit more about her and her hobby. Turns out, Barbara not only creates for family and friends, but does custom work for interested individuals who have stumbled upon her works either through word of mouth, her own Facebook page , or her welcoming yet to-the-point website which features some of her other baby items like shower favors, diaper cakes, custom made crib quilts, crochet blankets, and more.

When asked what the story was behind her car seat creation, Barbara had this to say…

” My daughter was pregnant, so we went looking for a car seat. Not realizing how expensive they went up in the last 20 years, and being somewhat short on cash, we checked out some baby consignment stores and ended up finding two exact car seats for only $10 each. They were only a little over a year old, but the covers were filthy and printed in a pattern geared more towards a boy. Since my daughter was having a girl and I was making her nursery in hot pink and zebra stripe, we bought both car seats and the two bases with the intent of recovering them. One would be done in a similar print for my daughters car to coordinate with the nursery, the other would be for my son-in-law’s car in a material I bought from J&O fabrics. This way they both would be happy and the car seats would maintain the hot pink, black and white theme.”

“After washing the old covers so I could feel comfortable touching them, I took the seam ripper to them and separated each piece to use as a pattern. Instead of using the regular batton, I left an opening and stuffed it with fiber fill since my grand-daughter needed a softer seat.”
