“Teach the children so that it will not be necessary to teach the adults.”
-Abraham Licoln
May 2-8th, 2010 is National Teacher’s Appreciation Week, a time set aside to reflect and appreciate our educators then and now, as well as to show just how much we value their service to the academic and creative advancement of not only our children, but us as well.
Designed by the PTA (parent teacher association) in 1984, the first full week of May is a designated time to honor the men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. From traditional school teachers to non-traditional educators, the outstanding contributions teachers make can last a lifetime. Though often times unappreciated and underpaid, teachers rarely have the opportunity to bask in the fruits of their labor. Budget cuts, overpopulated classrooms, understaffed schools, absentee parents, political pressures, and the strains of a society full of uncertainty often make for more stress than not for many of our hero’s of the academic world. Yet saviors to many they still remain. Equipped with a desire to teach and a passion to be of service, they are not only standing in front of our classrooms, but sitting at the kitchen table when little Johny comes home from school, painting alongside underprivileged children at the ‘Y’, and teetering under the hood of a 1950 Chevy as their three little girls get a lesson in the basics of auto mechanics.
In celebration of National Teachers Appreciation Week, J&O Fabrics offers several school themed novelty prints for your gift giving pleasure. Make great one of a kind gifts for your favorite teacher now or throughout the year. Sometimes just the littlest gesture of kindness can mean the world! To all our educators, we say THANK YOU!
