It’s A Quilt. It’s A Pillow. No, It’s A Quillow!

How to make a Quillow:

If you have never heard of a Quillow, you are not alone. A combination of a quilt and a pillow is called a Quillow. Attach a pocket to your quilt, fold your quilt within the pocket…and ta-da! You have a Quillow!

Quillows are perfect for a picnic, kids sleepovers or just lounging around on the sofa. Add a strap for easy carrying. A Quillow makes a lovely wedding gift, is perfect for a baby shower and is always suitable for spoiling you and your family. We have the perfect selection of Novelty Fabrics to make your Quillow a winner for any occasion. Choose from our many Pre-Quilted Fabrics for a more classic look. For your Quillow project you will need the following materials:

2 yards top
2 yards bottom
18″ square for 1 side of pillow
18″ square for 2nd side.
Crib size batting

Place top and bottom right sides together. Put batting on top. Sew along all four edges, leaving a 6-8″ opening. Turn. Sew opening closed. Pinbaste. Topstitch along. Quilt or tie as desired.

For the pillow-pocket: Place squares right sides together. Put batting on top. Sew on all edges, leaving a 6″ opening. Turn. Sew opening closed. Pinbaste. Topstitch along edges. Quilt or tie.

Now the tricky part. Find the center of a short side of the top. Mark with pin. Find the bottom center of the pillow’s front. Match it to the pin. Pin in place.

Sew the pocket to the quilt. Again, a walking foot is really helpful though not essential.

Once your Quillow is complete: Turn the Quillow over, so that the pocket is on the bottom. Fold lengthwise into thirds, overlapping if necessary. Now, turn the pocket portion inside out. It will look like a folded quilt is spilling out of the pocket. Fold the spilled-out part into thirds, toward the pocket. Now, with the pocket at your feet, grab the furthest-most portion of the spill-out, and push it into the pocket. Now it looks like a pillow.

Although you may have never heard of a Quillow before, we are certain that now you will be unable to live without one.
