Some people simply cannot do without the convenience of a pocket on their frocks. For those types, there is a plethora of great ways to make your own frockets (Fabric pockets!) on clothing that may come without pockets!
A fun way to make a frocket: Use decorative and unexpected fabrics from J&O!
To make a frocket:
- Lay paper over the shirt and mark off onto the paper the dimensions for the pocket size. Do not overlook seam allowance!
- Use the paper pocket pattern to cut fabric to actual size
- Cut out two pieces of fabric for each pocket, as you do not want a tacky pocket lining. What if someone were to peek inside your frocket? Pro-tip: Use a different fabric for the lining of the pocket.
- Stitch the two pieces together, leaving a gap to turn
- Clip and press
- Run a sturdy ¼” stitch to secure the pocket to the shirt in desired place
- Add ribbon trim, buttons or appliques if desired
- Using a sturdy, machine washable fabric is ideal to avoid losing your new favorite frock and frocket!

Fabric pockets can be added to any arsenal of outfits, including that cotton sundress. There is also the option of being a ninja and adding frockets to the inside of hoodies and other clothing items, this allows women to avoid having to carry a handbag when involved in outdoor activities! Then again, that is what husbands are for: to tow our items for us on those days!
