Fish Tale: How to Make a Mermaid Tail Without Needle & Thread!

Amy from Living Locurto put together an absolutely adorable mermaid themed party for a lucky 3-year-old little girl! One of the highlights of the party was the fact that each child invited received a special mermaid fin to wear, making make-believe more real and giving this fish tale a very happy ending! Find the materials for your version in our online fabric store, or stop by!

You do not have to own a sewing machine or even have the slightest idea how to sew to make these party pleasers—just lazily cut out the shape, as shown, and do the following:
• Measure the mermaid’s waist prior to cutting fabric
• Once you have cut it out in the shape pictured, make 2 holes (as shown) to pull fabric tie through
• Add tulle to the fin with hot glue. To make it stand out, fold it under so that it will fluff out!
• Glue Velcro around the waistline to make it easy for a child to operate. Kids are always putting things on and removing them, so a quick Velcro rip is perfect for this pool item.

Other notable items she used to achieve the mermaid theme party included:
• A soft blue fabric backdrop over a window (for that underwater vibe)
• Goldfish crackers
• Sushi sandwiches
• Sandy beach cupcakes
• ‘The Little Mermaid’ gift bags for guests and a pin the tail on Ariel game
• Starfish brownies on sticks
• Aquamarine colors galore!

My 7 and 10 year old bonus daughters watch the series ‘H20’ obsessively. They are in for a surprise when I present them with their own cute mermaid tail!

Headbands and braids make a cute addition to the theme! Go for all-out mermaids braids!
