Previously, we shared a tutorial for a cozy fabric camera strap. This is a patchwork fabric version, which is a bit more involved, but worth the work for the finished product! Pro-tip: Use our NFL fabric to craft a strap for your sports fan! They will be happy to show it off while snapping photos at the next game!
What to do:
- Once you have chosen your fabric prints, cut them into 3.75 wide. The lengths can be cut however you like them to appear. Start with a piece that is 6” long, as it will attach to the lens pocket.
- Sew the pieces together with a ¼” allowance. The finished strip should measure 26.5 inches in length.
- You should have 2 pieces, one for the front of the strap and one for the back. You can use patchwork for both sides, make the back solid, striped, polka dotted—anything you wish. Both straps should measure 26.5” x 3.75”.
- The pocket piece: center a piece of interfacing on the back of the pocket and fuse. Fold the end over ½ inch and fold again to make an edge. Stitch this down sturdy. Line up unfinished edge of pocket with end of camera strap and baste.
- Now lay the 2 strap pieces together, right sides facing.
- Sew one of the long edges with a ½” allowance and press open.
- Center the fusible fleece on the wrong side of the patchwork and fuse.
- Fold up the shorter ends, press and stitch.
- Next, fold the strap cover in half lengthwise, right sides touching, and sew a ½” seam.
- Trim down to ¼”, turn and press.
- Finish by topstitching along both sides of the strap with a 1/8” allowance. Be careful not to stitch over the lens cap pocket!
A variety of bright fabrics will make this strap stand out
