Anyone who has been shopping for a laptop sleeve can attest to the overpriced, boring selections out there! Use this fabric or felt laptop sleeve tutorial to create your very own stylish version! Get your felt fabric or decorative fabric here and get started today!
You will need:
- (For a 17” laptop) 24” x 18” felt piece. The same amount of fabric if you wish to cover the felt with fabric.
- Double headed zipper measuring 28”
- Coordinating thread and contrasting thread
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Pencil or chalk
What to do:
- Carefully cut felt into 23.5 x 17.5 rectangle
- Fold in half and pin rectangle
- Use chalk to round off one corner, and cut out. Carful not too hack off too much! You want the laptop to fit inside its fabulous new case.
- Line zipper against the side over the rounded corner and baste with contrasting thread
- Turn down edges at the corner where the zipper begins
- Take your time basting in the zipper before sewing
- Sew the zipper in using straight and even stitching. Felt is a bit different than fabric, it may take a bit more time. It is worth the effort.
- The side with no zipper is simple, just use a fun contrasty thread and make sure it is sturdy.
- Pull out the contrast basting for a sharp finish!
- If you want to cover the felt with fabric, you can either cover the whole thing, or just sew on some large pieces. A collage effect with a few different prints would be adorable, with the felt showing around the edging!
- That is all, how easy was that? You saved tons of money and ended up with a completely unique laptop sleeve that you certainly won’t see on every table at the coffee shop!
