Lets face it, we live in a germ and bacteria filled world. Don’t get us wrong, most of it is necessary to live. There have been tons of studies done that prove that exposure to such things as we grow strengthens our immune systems and lessens our chances of having acute allergies. However, it is indisputable that too much of the wrong bacteria can really mess with your health. That is why chemists at the University of California were incredibly excited when they discovered a way to make self-disinfecting cotton.
The cotton has special properties that when exposed to light produce an essence that breaks down toxic organic compounds. The fabric has the exact same properties that normal cotton does in regard to weight and texture, only with an added property that makes it a bacteria fighting machine. Researchers proclaimed that the fabric would be perfect as a safety precaution for people who work in the healthcare industry, farm workers, and military personnel.
As much as we love our own high quality cotton fabric, we would love to get our hands on some of this during cold and flu season. A few yards of this new material, some anti-bacteral soap, and hot tea and we would be good to go from now until spring!
