We at J&O Fabric love our military men and women. There is nothing quite as reassuring as seeing our own in… plastic? According to a news report, the Senate Armed Services Committee is pushing the Defense department to consider giving new recruits uniforms made from recycled materials like plastic bottles (the alternative is that they receive hand-me-downs). It may not be an organic fabric, but it is green nonetheless.
Cintas Corporation is one of the potential manufactures of this recycled material. They are already manufacturing fabric using this method for casino uniforms and believe that they can do a good job of creating something that the military, as well as the United States will get behind. As an added bonus to the benefits of recycling, creating the new fabric costs less than dry-cleaning the hand-me-down uniforms.
The Senate committee has asked the Defense Department to consider whether recycled materials could be an acceptable alternative to theĀ nylon dress fabric and cotton material used now. It is only a matter of time before the decision is made to use the new fabric, or maintain the system and fabrics that are in place now.
