Crayons, markers, and even Playdough can get a little messy when little ones are creating their masterpieces. That is why we encourage the use of craft felt fabric for all of our young ones artistic endeavors. Not only can they easily change any detail they want, once the pieces are created you can use them over and over to make new scenes. When pieces are interchangeable there is no end to the potential stories that can be created. That equates to endless hours of fun and ample room for imaginations to leap and bound.
The key to crafting an awesome storyboard is making cool pieces of scenery and characters for tots to play around with. Dragons and princesses, rocket ships and aliens, squids and sharks; go crazy! The best part about these boards is the ability to mix and match without the fear of permanent mess ups and messy situations. If you want some professional inspiration, there are professionally done boards that you can buy online with really beautiful and intricate characters.
What you want to use as a base to put your scenery on is completely up to you. If you are looking for something inexpensive, pizza boxes can act as a cheap but effective basis for the background of the scene that you want to create. However, if you are looking for something more substantive, we recommend foam squares. Whatever you end up choosing, make sure that the surface area is big enough to handle the crazy scenes that the child who will be using it will create! Kids may be very small, but their dreams tend to be quite expansive.
The last tip that we have to give you is to make more than one board for your child to play with. Don’t just stick with one with green hills and a plain blue sky. Mix it up! Make a board with a sea scape, another that looks like outer space, and even a third that looks like a jungle. This is not only your child’s chance to get creative, it’s yours too!
