Happy almost- fall everyone!
For most, this is the fantastic time of the year when school is starting, the hot summer nights turn into cool sleeping weather, and Halloween candy starts appearing in supermarkets. In the fashion world something equally as fantastical and marvelous is happening: fall collections are hitting the runways.
So far, the line that has received the most attention is Givenchy’s fall couture line. The press love it, magazines love it, and we at J&O love it. The way that designer Riccardo Tisci uses high quality dress fabric is a prime example of sewing and fashion as an art form. The detail and intricacy with which the collection has been crafted is inspirational. But please don’t just take our word for it, check it out yourself! The full line is available to look at on Vogue’s website.
Hubert de Givenchy was born in 1927 in Paris. He had great success as a young designer, and by the early 1950s every well dressed woman of that era was wearing his clothing. The list of his famous clientele includes old hollywood stars like Lauren Bacall, Greta Garbo, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlene Dietrich as well as prominent women in the political world like Jacqueline Kennedy- Onassis, Princess Grace of Monaco, and Wallis Simpson. However, some of his most famous work was displayed on Audrey Hepburn. The famous dress that she wore to win the heart of her long time love in the film Sabrina was designed and created by Givenchy himself.
If the fall line is any indication, Givenchy’s line is in good hands with Riccardo Tisci. We are very excited to see more collections by him under this label for the winter and next spring! If you want to see the rest of the fall couture line, visit Vogue’s Givenchy 2011 Fall Couture page.
