Fabric U.S. Map Craft

Refresh your fabric selection and your geography knowledge simultaneously with this adorable fabric U.S. map! This is a great group project and gift idea. The first step is to select 50 fabrics. Pro-tip: Choose a fabric that gives a nod to each state! Examples: Peach fabric for Georgia, fleece fabric for the Dakotas, NFL team fabrics and more! This is a versatile project that you can really get creative with!

You will need:

  • 50 fabrics. You can use some of your existing scraps and choose the rest from J&O Fabrics!
  • Map pattern (printable version here)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Ability to topstitch
  • Patience! (This can be a time-consuming project. To avoid pains, try doing just a few states per evening. That way, you are looking forward to it!).

What to do:

  • The tedious part will be cutting out your 50 states. Do not despair, just tackle about 10 per day if you prefer!
  • Cut out heat n bond piece large enough for each state. Iron it to the back of the state. Once it cools, peel of the backing and pin the state to your backed fabric.
  • Cut it out
  • Repeat 50 times
  • When the states are ironed onto the map, topstitch around each state. This part is a bit time consuming as well, but you will be much more pleased with the finished product! Remember to backstitch when necessary.
