This easy fabric utensil holder is a cute idea for storing bamboo cutlery on-the-go! For those of you who dine out frequently, lunch breaks can be hectic. This is a good way to avoid forgetting to grab a plastic spoon on the run and also perhaps some germs. You will need:
- Coordinating fabrics (2 styles. Think polka dots and stripes, etc.)
- Ribbon. Approximately 24 inches is sufficient
- Contrasting threads will give it an edge
- Scissors
- Fabric marker
What to do:
- Cut the fabric into 12” squares. Do this with both the inner and outer fabrics. You may use a different print for both sides to add interest!
- The pocket area will measure 4” wide by 9” tall
- To begin: Fold the pocket piece in half with right sides facing, pin and sew all the way around, leaving a gap at the bottom for turning.
- Turn right side out, trim corners and press
- Now pin the pocket to the lining fabric. You are free to position the pocket anywhere on the lining that you like.
- Sew the left and right sides of the pocket to the lining using a 1/8” allowance
- Mark 2 lines from top to bottom to form the utensil pockets within the pocket. (Ideally, creating 3 slots for fork, spoon and knife).
- Sew down each line to form the utensil pockets
- On the left side, pin the ribbon to the lining, tails in
- Now place the outer fabric over the top with right sides kissing and pin
- Sew around the edging with a 1/8” allowance, leaving a gap for turning
- Clip and press
- Top stitch with a ¼” allowance
- Tada! Fold the top down and wrap it, that way the utensils do not slip out the top!
