Effective Fabric Storage Solutions and Ideas

Having a room or space dedicated to crafting is a goal for many—but when it becomes a reality, the challenges of organizing it can be overwhelming. Rather than watch your dream space fray into an ever-expanding mess, use the following fabric storage solution ideas for inspiration! Think of something even better? We would love for you to share it with us on Facebook! Your fellow crafters will thank you.

Fabric Storage

Store your fabrics by prints, solids, and types. Use baskets of various sizes, or even clear bins to display the contents. Example: Your bin of decorative fabrics can be layered by colors, too! Wrap the fabrics around cardboard pieces to avoid wrinkles.

Label, label, label. Investing in a label maker is a great idea. This will allow you to easily mark each bin with exactly what it contains. If your chosen bins are not transparent, you certainly do not want to open every bin in the room before you find what you were searching for!

Limited space for storage? Even if you have only a closet to work with, there are options! Over-the door hangars for shoes and accessories are ideal for storing ribbons, buttons, fabric scraps and other crafting odds and ends for easy retrieval. The clear versions work best.

Another option is using shoeboxes. Before you envision a terribly ugly tower of boxes, note that you can cover each box with a decorative fabric for flair! The boxes, like your feet, are all the same size–creating a sense of overall organization. You can even glue a sample of each of the fabrics inside to the outside of the box for easy inventory. When inventory changes, just replace the exterior sample strip!

Bonus: you have an excuse to buy more shoes! Carrie Bradshaw would be proud.

Fabric Storage

Place pegboard over a large wall section. When painted to complement the space, this provides versatile storage options for hanging threads, rulers, scissors and more. Who says this material is only meant for his garage storage? Hmmph.
