Fabric Cures for the Winter Blues

Summer time fabric J&O

Winter is finally beginning to descend upon us in the Philadelphia area and as a result I am missing summer more than ever. I keep daydreaming about hanging out on the beach, getting a tan, laying in a hammock relaxing and listening to the waves crash around me. Unfortunately, as someone paying off their college loans I can’t exactly pull together the extra cash to hop on the next jet and head to somewhere warm. In an attempt to bring the beach to me, I plan on using fun tropical novelty fabric to create a beach-y environment.

J&O Surf Beach Fabric

This Surf Beach Fabric is my favorite of all the tropical novelty fabric. It’s a 100% cotton print with a fun, retro beach pattern. I love the colors of the girl’s bathing suits and the way they complement the green of the palm trees. I’m absolutely going to use this when I start making my quilted beach blanket or curtains for my family’s place down the shore. Making a beach blanket when the weather people are talking about “arctic winds” makes me feel so hopeful.

J&O Iris Poodle Chenille Fabric

Poodle Chenille fabric is definitely one of our most comfortable fabrics; it is similar to terry cloth in that it’s soft and absorbent, but the loft is a little higher and it comes in lots of bright beautiful colors. During depressing dark winters, a little color goes a long way. That depression can be especially intense when you get out of your hot shower and are forced to face your cold bathroom. Brighten up your washroom with Poodle Chenille. It is perfect for towels, washcloths, and bath mats.

J&O Set Sail Fabric

If your summer dreams take you to the coast of New England rather than the Jersey Shore or a far away island, this last fabric is for you! To many there is nothing more relaxing than going out with a sailboat and blowing around on a gusty coast line. These adorable sailboats and colorful flags and compasses call to mind just such a glorious day. This cute decorative fabric would be great for would be great for throw pillows for your home, to cover a bench in a boathouse, seat covers in the kitchen, or as a tablecloth to eat lobsters on.

I’m sure that you all are missing summer just as much as we at J&O are. If you have a favorite summer craft or even a snapshot of your favorite destination, be sure to post it on our Facebook wall. Heres hoping that looking at the pictures of that beautiful vacation destination will somehow make my house feel a few degrees warmer.
