Furniture does not have to be permanently mundane! Because it is such a substantial investment, many people hold on to furniture items for many years, even though they may become bored with them. The solution is simple: Fabric! Grab some fresh fabrics from our online store and get started covering chairs using the tutorial below!
Boring old chairs sitting around? Cover them with fabric and fall in love with them all over again!
You will need:
- Choose a fabric that fits the room. It can be matchy or contrast for an edgy appeal. Don’t be afraid to play with splashes of color!
- Foam
- Spray adhesive
- Heavy-duty carpet tape
- Fusible webbing
- Coordinating thread
What to do:
- For a chair like the first photo in this post, trace the seat back and bottom onto a ½” foam. If you can, remove the pieces first, it is much easier.
- Cut the foam pattern out and use a sturdy spray adhesive to secure the foam to the chair pieces. You do not want them sliding around each time the chair is used.
- Cut fabric 3 inches wider than the chair pieces to allow for wrap around coverage.
- Wrap the fabric around the bottom piece of the chair (Where you sit) carefully, securing with heavy-duty carpet tape at the bottom.
- Next, trace the back of the chair onto paper with a 1-inch allowance all the way around.
- Use this as a pattern to cut out two pieces of fabric. These will cover the chair back, front and backsides.
- Begin with the front piece. Spray the chair back with adhesive and press the fabric over it, wrapping the edges around toward the back.
- Lay the final piece down and press a 1-inch allowance under on all sides neatly.
- Finish by attaching it to the back of the chair with fusible webbing.
- Finally, put the chair back together and admire your handy work!
