“Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.
We have the technology.
We have the capability to build the world’s first bionic man.
Steve Austin will be that man;
better than he was before.
Better, stronger, faster.”
– from the opening sequence to the Six Million Dollar Man
If you were going to build a better man where you begin? The muscles? The limbs? The brain? The… hair? The titular character from the television series Six Million Dollar Man had bionic limbs and an infrared eye with a 20:1 zoom capability. In saving him from a terrible plane crash, the government famously spent six million dollars to make special agent Steve Austin “better, stronger, faster”.
What has us thinking about the Six Million Dollar Man these days? The news that Pittsburgh Steelers’ saftey Troy Polamalu just had his famous locks insured for $1,000,000. Maybe the question of building a better man by starting with his hair doesn’t sound so far fetched after all.
There are certain parallels you can point to between Steve Austin and Troy Polamalu, or any other football player for that matter. Both experience intense impacts: Steve Austin in a plane; Polamalu on the football field. While Austin was built to become an elite agent, football players undergo years of training in order to become better, stronger and faster. And while Austin had $6,000,000 invested in him, Polamalu’s hair alone is worth $1,000,000. Polamalu’s hair 1, Steve Austin 0.
Polamalu’s wealthy hair also got us thinking about fabric (of course!) because we not only carry fabrics for all of your favorite football teams, but also fabrics that tackle (get it?) our often frustrating relationship with hair. Even if your hair isn’t worth millions of dollars or even an expired coupon you’ll enjoy these novelty quilting fabrics:
At J&O we have a huge variety of novelty quilting fabrics from all of the major mills. Two of our most popular sections are NFL Fabrics and Women’s Accessories Fabric. Check out these sections and many others at J&O Fabrics!
