Tassels are great for bracelets, earrings, curtains and trims. If you are in need of a special color or style that you are unable to locate, just make them yourself with these easy tips!

First decide if you want a small, medium or large tassel. You can use various household items as a pattern, or a ruler. For example: for a smaller tassel, use a water glass bottom, for a medium use a small sauce pan, for a large tassel use a bucket or larger object. For itty-bitty tassels, you can use a narrow vase.

First choose the material you want for the tassels. Cut a length of around 10” for a typical tassel and lay it perpendicular to your yarn or embroidery floss.

Next, start wrapping the yarn or floss around your tool until you have half the desired girth of the tassel.

Clip yarn or floss off on the opposite side of the tie and then neatly knot until desired effect is achieved.

Remove from tool and cut directly opposite of tie. Pull tie gently near the bottom and begin the process of wrapping the tassel.

Continue wrapping the tassel until you are pleased with the results and clip the tail. For added pizzazz, thread a tapestry needle through to hide the knot and tail.

Pro-tip: Add depth and contrast to your tassel by using various cordings or wires. Playing with texture and color can create a very unique product!
