In CASE you haven’t noticed, designer and decorative pillow covers are quite expensive! The fabulous ‘Centsational Girl’ stepped up to the challenge and created an online tutorial to make simple no-sew pillow covers from fashionable fabric napkins! Tip: If you prefer to select your own fabric, browse our online fabric store and just hem the edges to start this innovative and affordable approach to home décor!
Machine not needed!
Bright fabric pillow covers transform the look and feel of a room in a flash!
You will need:
• Fabric napkins large enough to cover your pillow or hemmed fabric from J&O Fabrics!
• An iron
• Fusible webbing
• Damp washcloth to steam sides together using your iron
• Scissors
• Coordinating buttons or snaps to close one side of the pillow for easy removal
What to do:
• Use existing pillows or new ones. Cut one fabric napkin exactly down the middle, then fold over ½ inch
• Align some fusible web beneath the edge to allow for an opening in the back of the cover to easily remove to wash or change covers. A girl can never have enough decorative pillow covers, after all!
• Seam cut edge with your other napkin or fabric piece
• Use a hot iron and damp cloth to seal your seam. Take the time to ensure it is secure, directions may vary
• Layer seams over one another, with the decorative side facing out. Layer your other full napkin (one that is not cut in half) over the top with decorative side facing down. Patterned sides will be ‘kissing’, or facing each other and later be turned out to cover the pillow
• Continue to fuse edges together with fusible web and an iron, trimming excess fabric and leaving one side open
• Stuff pillow inside the new cover, and secure the open side with a cute button or snaps!
